Free Field Trip to Britannia Shipyards NHS

Seeking passionate local educators to assist with improving our school programs!

Dreaming of taking your class on an educational adventure to Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site? Immerse your Grades 4-9 students in a program about people from diverse cultures who lived and worked in Steveston. Your class will discover “How They Lived” through object-based learning as they investigate fascinating artifacts. We are excited to offer a unique opportunity to bring your students for a free field trip of our updated “How We Lived” school program. In exchange, we kindly ask for your time feedback and insight about the program. Read on for details on how to apply.

Teachers participating in the free program are expected to complete the following pre/post field trip evaluation

Before the program: 

  • Participate in one hour pre-visit meeting to review the program outline between Jan. 8-13, 2024 (online)
  • Dedicate approximately one hour to reviewing program-related documents before the field trip.
  • Free field trip will take place between Feb.10-17, 2024

After the program: 

  • Participate in a one hour post-visit meeting to provide constructive feedback, soon after the program  (online)

Eligible teachers must meet the following criteria:
1. Teach any grade from Grade 4 to Grade 9 (classes with two grades are acceptable).
2. Teach a class size of fewer than 30 students.
3. Ensure at least 1 adult for 5 students accompany the students on the field trip, including the teacher.
4. Show an interest in object-based learning.
5. Be available during the following dates for the program review and the field trip. Dates are non-negotiable.

  • One hour meeting between Jan. 8 to 13, 2024.
  • One hour to review documents before the end of January 2024
  • Free field trip between  Feb.10-17, 2024

How to Apply:
