SUMMARY:Steveston Salmon Festival
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date! \nThe annual Steveston Salmon Festival is Richmond’s largest event\, drawing tens of thousands of visitors to the community every July 1st. Enjoy the Salmon Festival parade\, musical entertainment\, historical and cultural programs and displays\, and lots of food\, including the famous salmon BBQ and festival chow mein. \nVisit the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site\, just a short scenic walk along the riverside boardwalk from the village. Check out the newly re-opened shipyard building\, heritage lawn games and a traditional Japanese “Tanabata” craft. Open 10am to 5pm\, admission is free. More info here.  \nThe Steveston Tram is an annual highlight for the festival\, with Tram Car 1220 on display outdoors (weather permitting)\, on its original tracks\, just north of the Steveston Tram museum. Visitors may explore inside the beautifully restored tram\, open 10am to 5pm. More info here. \n

DESCRIPTION:Are there any cultural traditions that have been passed down and celebrated by your families? \nJapanese Canadian children may remember writing their wishes on colourful paper and hanging them on bamboo branches for the July 7th Tanabata Star Festival\, celebrated annually in Japan. \nOn July 1st and 5th\, come to Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site\, take part in this tradition and leave your own wishes to decorate our Tanabata display. \nFor more on the background of this festival\, visit this blog post from a couple years ago. \nDate/time: July 1st Tuesday and July 5th Saturday  11am to 4pm\nLocation: Murakami House\nAdmission is free \nLook for the Tanabata display at Murakami House July 1st to 7th\, 2025.
