DESCRIPTION:What would you pack if you were given a moment’s notice before being forcibly uprooted from your home? The Suitcase Project is traveling exhibit created by Kayla Isomura in collaboration with the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre. \nView photos of items chosen by yonsei (fourth generation) and gosei (fifth generation) Japanese Canadian and American descendants of families who were uprooted form their homes during their internment in the Second World War. Stories and artefacts from local families bring the Steveston connection to closer to home.

DESCRIPTION:The Steveston Tram has once again transformed into the Winter Tram for the festive season – climb aboard and explore the history of interurban travel in Richmond. Don’t miss the junior tram conductor dress-up station and strike a pose with the historic tram\, all decked-out for the holidays! Open December 1 to 31 (closed Mondays and stat holidays) 12 to 4pm. Admission is free. \nJoin us for storytime hosted by the Richmond Public Library for “The Polar Express” on December 2 (Sat) and 10 (Sun) – reading times at 2\, 2:40 & 3:20pm. Free admission with limited seating\, first-come first-served\, and suitable for ages 4-9. \nFind transportation and holiday themed books to read in the cozy reading nook\, available during open hours Tues-Sunday 12-4pm. \nEnjoy a winter-themed scavenger hunt with holiday items throughout the Tram building\, including a prize of a tram tree ornament for children to take home and decorate. \nAnd don’t miss a special LEGO recreation of Richmond heritage buildings by Peter Grant. See the new LEGO model of Tram Car 1220 and the Steveston Tram Barn\, by local LEGO creator Peter Grant. \nKids will enjoy activities including a Tram Conductor dress-up corner\, LEGO building corner and transportation-themed craft and reading area. \nLook for the return of the Junior Conductor program\, where kids receive a punch card to record their visits and earn prizes. \nLots to explore and learn for tram lovers of all ages! \nAlso premiering as part of the exhibit\, is the new Richmond Stories short video about the history of the Tram in Steveston. Viewers can get a glimpse into the lives of the many diverse people who rode Tram Car 1220 for work and pleasure\, including the charming\, real-life love story between a Tram worker and a regular Steveston rider.
