Name the Tram Pig Contest

Plastic pink pig displayed between two historic tram benches

In the early 1900s, the Interurban Tram system connected Steveston with the Lower Mainland, transporting not just people, but even small farm animals like pigs, chicken, and baby cows, to help Richmond farmers transport their precious cargo. But by the 1950s, most farmers had bought trucks and no longer relied on the trams to transport animals, and eventually only human passengers were allowed on the trams.

As a snapshot of tram passengers of days past, visitors to the Steveston Tram can find the popular “Tram Pig” on display inside Tram Car 1220. Every day, the Tram Pig moves around the tram, and many younger visitors come regularly just to find his new location. Is the pig hiding or in plain sight? With all the attention on this popular pig, we think it deserves an actual name.

This Spring Break 2024, we invite kids 12 years old and under to come to the Steveston Tram in person, to enter a fun contest to help name the Tram Pig. The author of the winning name will receive a $20.00 gift voucher for Splash Toys in Steveston. See below for additional information including the terms and conditions of the competition:
