On Saturday, October 5 be inspired by rail and road transit of the past at the Steveston Tram, during the Canada-wide Culture Days celebration of arts and culture.
Get crafty and create your own copy of The Buzzer, the free leaflet that has been offered onboard public transportation for passengers since 1916. The first 100 visitors on Saturday will receive a vintage commemorative issue of The Buzzer from January 1990 that celebrated 100 years of transit in BC.
Between 12 to 4pm, just steps away from Steveston Tram, experience the rare opportunity to board a 60 year old bus courtesy of the Transit Museum. Fondly nicknamed “the Fishbowl”, the GM Bus 4612 was the first of the GM “New Look” buses for Vancouver in 1964. Take in its mid-century modern atmosphere as you sit in its seats and imagine what it was like to be a passenger six decades ago.
The Steveston Tram is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and the Transit Museum will be parked near the Tram on No.1 Road from noon to 4:00 pm. *Please note that due to their historic nature, both Tram Car 1220 and the bus may only be entered by steps, and are not fully accessible.
