Recent visitors may have noticed a rather large addition to the outdoor displays at the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, with a temporary move for the MV Burnaby.
The MV Burnaby is a 38-foot tugboat built at the Erikson Brothers Shipyards in North Vancouver in 1925. The vessel had long been in operation serving a range of entities such as the Vancouver Harbour Commission to the National Harbours Board.
Through a long 18-year restoration process, its previous owner, Don Garnier, fully restored the patrol vessel to its former glory, and in 2016 the MV Burnaby was generously donated to the City of Richmond.

MV Burnaby Today
The MV Burnaby was moved to its home inside the Britannia Shipyard building in 2023, where it has been on display on the restored slipways. In Spring 2025, in preparation for the repair and restoration construction of the Shipyard building, the MV Burnaby was carefully moved once again, this time to its current outdoor location in front of the Richmond Boat Builders.
Take advantage of this opportunity to get a 360 degree view of the 100-year old west coast tugboat in its new temporary outdoor home, the next time you visit Britannia Shipyards NHS.
