Light Up Your Holidays with a Visit to Winter Tram
Step into the magic of the season with a visit to the Winter Tram, part of Winter in the Village in Steveston.
From December 1 to 31, the Steveston Tram glows with festive lights, family fun, and perfect photo spots to make your holiday memories shine.
For your first stop in the village, look for the huge 27-foot illuminated tree at the corner of No. 1 Road and Moncton Street, right in front of our museum.
Don’t miss the tree-lighting ceremony on Sunday, November 30 starting at 4:00pm. Come for some popcorn and hot chocolate, music entertainment by the Beauty Shop Dolls, and a visit by Santa!
Winter Tram Activities
Inside the Steveston Tram building glowing with thousands of festive lights, friendly staff and holiday activities await. Starting December 1, kids can enjoy a winter-themed scavenger hunt, discovering fun connections between the season, and childhood pastimes in decades past.
Holiday LEGO display
Local “LEGO Man” Peter Grant returns with another remarkable display of Richmond’s heritage building recreations — a fan favourite for all ages. Look for the display in the Tram building’s front window including Richmond’s historic Methodist Church (now the Hospital Thrift Store in Steveston), Abercrombie House, General Currie School, and Rathburn House.
Polar Express Story Time
And in what has become an annual tradition, the Richmond Public Library will once again offer story time aboard Tram Car 1220. Climb aboard the beautifully restored 112-year-old tram and listen to the beloved classic The Polar Express, read by the library’s talented storytellers. Surrounded by the warm wood, brass, and rattan of this historic tram, you’ll feel like you’re on your own magical journey to the North Pole.
- Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 14
- Times: 2:00 pm, 2:40 pm, and 3:20 pm
- Tickets: Free at the door, available 15 minutes before each session, limited to 30 visitors per reading.
Even if you can’t make the story times, you can cozy up any time in our reading corner to enjoy The Polar Express and other train-themed stories in multiple languages.
Winter in the Village
The Steveston Tram is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, from December 1 to 31 (closed on Mondays and statutory holidays). Admission is free, so bring the whole family and make new holiday memories together.
While you’re in the area, explore the shops of Steveston Village where local merchants have decorated their windows for the holidays.
