We are proud to announce that the Heritage Boat Restoration Program at the Britannia Shipyards NHS has been nominated for the 2026 Heritage BC Awards under the “Education, Communications, and Awareness” category!
Heritage BC has announced this year’s nominees in nine different categories, noting outstanding achievements in heritage, conservation, education and community leadership throughout British Columbia. Award recipients will be selected by a jury, and announced at the annual Heritage BC conference on May 5, 2026.

Since opening in April 2025, the Heritage Boat Restoration Project inside the Richmond Boat Builders workshop has been visited by hundreds of people to learn about traditional wooden boat building and restoration, the history of Japanese Canadian craftsmanship in Steveston, and to watch shipwrights work on our current project, the restoration of a 1963 wooden gillnetter the Crystal S.
