June 6 (Saturday), 2026 @ 10am to 4pm  – Boat Building Tour & Activities*

Join resident shipwright Dave Sharp for a behind-the-scenes look at the Richmond Boat Builders workshop at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. Explore the blend of Western and Japanese tools and techniques unique to Steveston’s boat building heritage. Learn about Japanese tools like the kanna (planes), nokogiri (handsaws), and sumitsubo (measuring lines). Enjoy hands-on activities for the whole family!  *Drop-in anytime between 10am to 4pm. Saturday only.

 June 7 (Sunday), 2026 @ 11am and 2pm – Heritage Conservation Talk & Tour **

Join Heritage Consultant Elana Zysblat, CAHP, ICOMOS for a behind-the-scenes tour of the newly restored Britannia Shipyard building.

Explore the historical significance of this building and its evolution from cannery to shipyard to national historic site. Hear the story of the recent restoration project: The team, the materials used, the challenges and discoveries, and how the entire project was guided by national standards for conservation.

** Tour length: 45 minutes. Limited capacity. Registration info to come. Limited drop-in spots may be available. Sunday only.
